Musical roots go deep in Dixie and Miss Deborah’s passion is to draw on those roots and share her discoveries with the world. Whether performing live or recording a CD, Miss Deborah’s harp and voice unite to create a rich tapestry of music celebrating Celtic and Southern heritage.

Her musical adventures began with piano lessons at age five and soon expanded when she taught herself the harp at age nine and began vocal training at age twelve. Through the years she as continued her musical education by studying under accomplished performers and teachers, taking music related classes at a local college, and carrying out self-directed studies in her areas of interest

Early performance experiences included 4-H talent shows, which garnered Best of Show several years in a row, and group performances with family members. Soon Miss Deborah began branching out as a performer, taking her music to home education conventions, League of the South conferences, vocal competitions, Abbeville Institute Summer Schools, and various private functions, just to name a few. Church music also played, and continues to play, an important part in her musical activity.

Miss Deborah’s debut as a recording artist took place in May 2007 with the release of Let Dixie Remember, an album containing original and period songs about the South, arranged for harp and voice.

As an arranger and songwriter, Miss Deborah arranges pieces for harp and voice as well as composing her own works in keeping with Celtic and Southern traditions. She also researches music of the 19th century South in order to bring to light songs previously unfamiliar to the modern ear.

In addition, Miss Deborah teaches harp, voice and piano in a private studio she has been operating since 2003. She performs throughout the southeast and is available for conferences, retreats, special events, church services, re-enactments and weddings.

“My heart is steadfast, Oh God! I will sing and make melody with all my being! Awake, O harp and lyre! I will awake the dawn! I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to you among the nations. For your steadfast love is great above the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.”

Psalm 108:1-4
